As the landscape fills with fascinating mushrooms, join Leon Frey as he steps out to host a fungi identification foray, offering an introduction to the identification and seasonality of fungi, celebrating the fascinating world of mushrooms.

The foray will see attendees moving across both grasslands and through woodlands, learning how to responsibly collect mushrooms, recognise poisonous species, and, importantly, make wild fungi a safe part of a regular diet. In addition to getting hands-on with the identification of mushrooms found across the Rame Peninsula, we will be guiding you through essential practices of mushroom hunting, such as the tools and habits that will support your journey, while also demonstrating how to be responsible when collecting fungi, so as to avoid over-harvesting.

While mushrooms are becoming gradually more celebrated across the UK, there are still roots of mycophobia, with a number of common misconceptions regarding fungi remaining pervasive, as well as some fears! We believe that familiarity with fungi is important, not only for the sake of dispelling mycological myths but also because they are an essential part of our environment and, with a greater appreciation for mushrooms and mycelium, we can better support and understand our landscapes.

We will begin our course at 9am and conclude, generally, at 1pm. You will need to bring only water and weather-appropriate clothing, as well as a good pair of walking boots/shoes. The foray will involve a long but gentle walk with some inclines. If you have any concerns regarding mobility issues, please contact Leon to discern whether this course is suitable for you.

General logistics for the day will be shared shortly after booking and the course will take place within a short distance of Maker Heights, however, the exact location of our foray will be announced a day or so prior to the event. Please do not worry if you haven't received logistics, they will be sent to you before the course. The nature of our current climate and the fickle predisposition of fungi means that we cannot share details or exact locations until much nearer the time. If you are still concerned that you haven't received the necessary information, then please feel free to email our team.

In the interest of sustainability, places for these fungi forays are extremely limited. If you would like to join one of our fungi forays but the event has sold out, please email us regarding your interest.
