Learn With Us

Working with local schools and colleges, our interactive foraging and wild food cookery walks focus on learning traditional skills and knowledge and tackle the big issues in an exciting and age appropriate manner – surrounding topics such as food sustainability and where our food comes from; health and nutrition and the challenges faced by nature deficit disorder.

Engage your children with nature, getting hands-on with edible wild foods and heritage crafts in our Wild School sessions led by our head forager, Vix Hill-Ryder.

Each session takes place within the Rame Peninsula, focussing on different seasons and local environments, while also welcoming a number of guest educators.


Our Classes

Foraging has the potential to bond families & strengthen communities.

Our classes are primarily held at our outdoor education center (though occasionally we will arrange classes elsewhere, such as the beach for seaweed harvesting!) This is land that The Family Foraging Kitchen team have been maintaining and rewilding over the last number of years, cultivating a diverse and sustainable local ecology.

We have a classroom, outdoor activity covered area, compost toilet with disabled access, an apiary, a reservoir, wild flower meadows, an orchard, a woodland and a new outdoor cookery area. This also gives us a range of botanical diversity, space – and the ability to still go ahead even in inclement weather.

Our Location

Located on the beautiful Rame Peninsula.

Our education centre is located on Horsepool Lane, which is just by Sheviock, in southeast Cornwall, and is part of the Antony Estate. It is only a short ten minute drive outside of Millbrook and is also accessible on local bus routes. Detailed logistics on how to find and parking us will be shared with each booking.

Schools & Colleges

We are now affiliated with The Children’s University.

This could be at your school setting, or your pupils can come out to join us at our education center in Sheviock. We often tie in elements of your class curriculum, from nature and the local environment, to WW2, even outer space!

Many children are now disconnected from the food that they eat. Given the ecological, social and environmental crises that we now face globally, humanity needs to – rather urgently and radically – examine its relationship with food, and how we acquire it. Foraging is about more than just food and nourishment; it gets us out into the countryside, helps to cultivate an intimate appreciation of nature, lets us explore history, science and folklore; can bond families, strengthen communities and re-establish connections severed by modern life.

We come with two qualified, experienced, and DBS certificate holding staff. We provide pre-activity site visits, risk assessments, all insurance, and offer all supplementary ingredients, teacher packs and take home packs for parents.
