Would you like to be involved with an exciting
new local project?
Do you have a traditional skill, craft, or a hobby, or simply experience, life tip or wisdom to share?
What’s the best piece of advice your parents or
grandparents ever gave you?
We are looking for people such as:
Cooks, Artists, Knitters, Weavers, Felters, Potters, Fishermen, Mechanics, Gardeners, Cobblers, Butchers, Musicians, Florists, Dress Makers, Carvers, Storytellers and more!
We would love to hear from you to see if you would like to share some of your knowledge, passion and enthusiasm, skills, crafts, wisdoms, vocations and any practical pieces of advice with our wider community.
Working with an esteemed local film maker and students from Plymouth University’s Media Department , you could either appear in a short documentary film, talking about and/or demonstrating these skills to camera - or be part of a series of oral interviews that will be recorded and transcribed into a practical book.
We also have the potential to offer local employment opportunities to skilled craftsmen and women who would be interested in teaching what they do as a course.
We live in a world where the future of our children could look very different from today. a throw away consumer culture, unsustainable food production, pollution and ever increasing levels of social deprivation and food poverty.
The purpose of the documentary and book is to make a record of skills and wisdoms that could inspire younger generations to lead a more sustainable, self-sufficient and meaningful lifestyle. It could lead someone into a craft, trade or useful life skill and hobby.
It will work to reignite a cultural set of traditional values, such as ‘Make Do and Mend’ and ‘Grow your Own’.
Our Grandparents Secret's is a project where your knowledge and wisdom will be recorded as a legacy gift for your own grandchildren to cherish and in turn pass down to their own.
Although not only grandparents...
We are based on the beautiful Rame Peninsula in South East Cornwall. You can choose from hedgerow walks with stunning sea views, coastal walks that finish on the wonderful Cornish shoreline, woodland walks and even discover what's hidden in the wild urban landscapes of our nearest city, just across the water - Plymouth. We range in price from our popular monthly wild food walks (with a cookery class using the wild produce we've collected at the end also included!) for just £20 an adult and children go free. Bespoke private walks can be arranged at any time (and location of your choosing) - and we also offer exciting packages tailored for honeymooners and corporate team building days etc (please see the relevant pages on this site!). We also run courses in traditional countryside crafts - such as bee keeping, willow weaving and working with wild game.
