Traditional wood craft course - learn to carve a wooden spoon with Simon Walker from Wild Hearts.
Spend a morning in the woodland at Horsepool Apiary, on the Antony Estate in SE Cornwall, learning to craft functional spoons. No experience is necessary.
We'll cover timber selection, cleaving, using a carving axe, spoon design, using a knife safely and efficiently.
The course is run in a relaxed manner but there's a lot to cover so we keep the pace ticking over to enable you to finish your spoon.
We believe our souls are missing the connection with nature that our indigenous selves had. Through hands on spoon carving workshops we build individuals confidence and curiosity. Letting nature be the teacher. The perfect way to relax into nature and ourselves.
The workshops will be two hours long all tools and timber supplied. Children are very welcome but we have a minimum age requiremnt of 12 years and all children must be with a parent/carer.
You will need to dress appropriately for a day in the woods and covered footwear is essential, preferably hiking boots or similar (but steel toecaps not required). We also have a classroom on site - so the teaching space is covered against the rain.
£20 per person
We are based on the beautiful Rame Peninsula in South East Cornwall. You can choose from hedgerow walks with stunning sea views, coastal walks that finish on the wonderful Cornish shoreline, woodland walks and even discover what's hidden in the wild urban landscapes of our nearest city, just across the water - Plymouth. We range in price from our popular monthly wild food walks (with a cookery class using the wild produce we've collected at the end also included!) for just £20 an adult and children go free. Bespoke private walks can be arranged at any time (and location of your choosing) - and we also offer exciting packages tailored for honeymooners and corporate team building days etc (please see the relevant pages on this site!). We also run courses in traditional countryside crafts - such as bee keeping, willow weaving and working with wild game.
